Our Great God

thumbnailCAYYCY3Z“ O LORD, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches. 33) I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being. 34) My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the LORD.” – Psalms 104:24, 33-34

When we consider all the wonderful works of God, when we really stop to drink in all that He is and does provide; there awakes a joy and faith in our soul so great the mountains are made to look as but small hills in comparison. What joy, what confidence, what amazement and awe lies deep inside the manifold works of our Great God! How sweet is the meditation we spend upon His works. The more we think of them, the more time we give them to pass across the eyes of our heart, the sweeter our thoughts become. True joy and faith are birthed in this meditation. This time spent in the lap of the Holy Spirit teaches us the intimate character and person of God. Without this type of meditation a Christian cannot grow into the full measure of spiritual maturity that God has planned for him. Take joy in spending time meditating upon the wonderful works of God.

I am Gracious

j0435912Exodus 22:26-27 If thou at all take thy neighbour’s raiment to pledge, thou shalt deliver it unto him by that the sun goeth down: 27 For that is his covering only, it is his raiment for his skin: wherein shall he sleep? and it shall come to pass, when he crieth unto me, that I will hear; for I am gracious.

God says if someone owes you a debt and they cannot pay, and they used their clothing for collateral on the loan, and you take their clothing as payment, take it for principle sake, but give it back by the end of the day so they don’t freeze at night. God wants his people to be kind and gracious as He is. How often could God take our clothing? How often would He be entitled to take our home, our vehicle or our health? How many times have we robbed Him in our tithes and offerings or used all the time in the day for ourselves and have given Him nothing but a passing prayer. How many times have we sat at home when we should have and could have been in church with Gods people? How many times have we had the opportunity to say some word for Christ, but being ashamed we kept silent? How many opportunities have we neglected to share the gospel message with some precious soul? How easily we use God’s minuets, His resources and His breath without a thought of repayment or obligation; we take, take and take and rarely give thanks or service in return. Oh dear reader, how God could easily and rightfully take all he has given…but HE IS GRACIOUS!!! Praise our good God and His Son Jesus Christ we are not given what we deserve! Psalms 103:10-13 says “He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. 11 For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. 12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. 13 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.” Love God and give Him praise today, give Him honor today, and give Him his rightful place in your heart…the number one place!

The Name of the LORD

tower 1Psalm 124:8 Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

Proverbs 18:10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

1Samuel 17:45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.

What is in a name some may ask? A name reveals the person. A name identifies the characteristics, powers and abilities of an individual. The nature of a person is attached to a name. My name is Jason Michael Myers; I am one person but hold many titles and have various abilities and traits. Husband, Father, Pastor, Son, Grandson, Friend, American Citizen etc…. When those who know me hear my name, they automatically think of certain aspects of my ability and character. They know of my interests, my talents, my accomplishment and my habits. They know where I have done well and where I have failed. My name reveals who I am. God however has never failed; his name reveals his greatness.

When we think of God, we may think of, Creator, Heavenly Father, Author of our Salvation, Provider, Gracious Savior, and Helper of the weak and so on. We can’t help but to think of his mercy, love and kindness which he shows toward us on a daily basis. Our God is the triumphant Victor over Satan and the Light that shines in the darkness; he is the hope of his people and the strength of them that trust in him. He is the sweetest fragrance, the gentlest breeze and the breath of fresh air men seek after traveling through the smog of this world. When we call upon, run into or invoke the name of the LORD, we are calling upon everything he is and all he possesses. This is a thought we can hardly wrap our human minds around, and we may struggle to understand, but what a blessing we have in this Wonderful Name.

The name of the LORD is our mighty weapon, our protective fortress, our source of help and our overall confidence. When the enemy comes and the situation grows dangerous, run child O God into the strength and strong tower of his name. When doubts arise, seek the name of the LORD for guidance. When you need strength, hope and peace, open the door of grace and walk into the name of the LORD; shut the door and rest under the shadow His Almighty covering. Trust in his name, rest in his name and never hesitate to call upon his name. “Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the LORD…” Psalms 118:26
